We have lots of things to fix and lots of features to implement but would love you to suggest what you feel is important to help us validate our priorities and add new ones!

  1. Bring back the old interface for package KB

It was immediate, easy to navigate, intuitive and helpful; why do we need to go through a long winded search utility to get this information?

We’re happy to announce that we’ve launched an update tonight that improves the ability to browse deployment tips. We hope this makes it easier to find the valuable deployment tip content on the site. Blog post announcing the feature: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/new-deployment-tips-and-q-a-browsing-features

    Previous update:

First, please be sure you are in the right place: http://www.itninja.com/tips

We definitely want to continue to improve the ease of finding things on the site. We are now working to implement an alphabetical listing, but in the meantime, the “Deployment Tips” page we have offers an alphabetical list you can scroll though— or better you can type into it for what you are looking for and shrink the list to just what matches your entry.

Please see my blog post on the Package KB improvements at: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/the-new-package-knowledge-base

  2. More traditional forum interface please.

The site now looks more like Symantec Connect, which is not all that great. The topics displayed per page is less, and navigation takes more clicks because of the site and space occupied by the new interface.

We’re happy to announce that we’ve launched an update tonight that improves the ability to browse questions. We hope this makes it easier to find and discover content in our tagged questions (the content previously in AppDeploy’s forums). Blog post announcing and describing the feature in more detail: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/new-deployment-tips-and-q-a-browsing-features

In terms of Q&A, you can now browse by topic and see the title, tags, author, last updated, if it is answered or not, how many answers there are, etc. http://www.itninja.com/question

Further you can now browse by topic at http://www.itninja.com/topics

We are working to increase the ability to browse software now and expect to introduce that feature soon. However, in terms of moving to a “more traditional forum interface” this request is marked as completed because I believe we have done so. If you have specific feedback on changes or enhancements you would like to see they are most welcome. Our…

  3. Email notifications when a question is answered.

I liked on the old App Deploy site how whenever someone would answer a question that we posted, it would notify us by email. The activity feed has a lot of stuff coming into it, and it can be hard to go back and find an answer.

Email notifications are sent when questions get an answer or comment. This applies to all content you follow (you follow content you post by default). If a “reply” is posted to an answer or comment you’ve made you will also get an email alert.

  4. Syntax Highlighting of code. Language specific with auto links to documentation

Something like the GeSHi highlighter can do this:
    * code specific - even supports AutoIT
    * auto links to public documentation. e.g. mysql function help
    * looks amazing and is customizable
    * could be extended to recognize kbot xml or something kace specific

  5. Running slow

Browsing the site using IE7 it is loading a number of pages up very slowly. Trying to use the Package search\drop down option is almost unusable as it is taking so long to give helpful options when you start typing

We’ve implemented several performance improvements on the back-end and implemented local and hosted caching solutions. The dynamic nature of the site makes fully leveraging caching a challenge but changes have resulted in better all-around performance which we will continue to improve upon. A lack of complaints in this area for a long time has us feeling that while we can still improve, the site is no longer seen as running slow, therefore this request is being marked as closed. Independent monitoring services rate ITNinja as average speed which we aim to improve upon over time.

  6. Software index

It's great to have everything under 'Software' and that it shows the lates, most popular and recently added packages/software but it would be extremely helpful if there was a list of all software somewhere.. by name like it used to be with Appdeploy.com .. unless it's somewhere in there but not easy to find..
could you guys add the index please?
    thanks,

I’m happy to say the new software library index is up and running at http://www.itninja.com/software/browse?WithTips=1

    For more details see http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/itninja-code-update-06-21-2012

Additionally, we will be providing the ability to add any software you don’t find in the software library so that you may contribute tips, share links, blog posts and ask questions for presently unlisted software (currently adding software requires you complete a form which initiates a back-end request for the software to be added which is a manual and slow process).

  7. Mobile Support

Tapatalk support or apps (android, apple or webapps).

The site has implemented a responsive layout that adjusts to smaller screens dynamically. The site is now mobile friendly for both phones and tablets.

If there is a desire for a native application, please open a new idea and specify just what you’d like to see it provide by way of functionality.

  8. Retain simple formatting in code blocks

I'd like to be able to retain simple formatting such as line breaks in code blocks. A blob of SQL/HTML/VB/etc. is much easier to read and understand if line breaks, indents, etc. are honored. No need for colors, bold, italics, fonts IMO, but layout can make a difference.

  9. Filter to exclude any KACE related Questions / blogs etc..

I only want to help the community to answer questions / post blogs / add links... I do NOT use KACE , among the majority of the former AppDeploy community. So It should be possible to have a setting in your profile that will exclude any KACE related info .

The Beta Search is NOT what we want.

We just want to filter out anything related with KACE ( unless we own a KACE product offcourse ;-)

A site wide filter, even for one specific tag would have serious impacts on performance. However, we have provided features to help you avoid what you don’t like and even more to focus on what you do like…

The ability to include or exclude content from searches based on tags is now available: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/avoiding-or-focusing-on-kace-materials-at-itninja

Outside of search results, you may find it beneficial to focus on what you do like by following tags to customize your activity feed and email digests.

  10. Add more Apple topics

How about adding Apple to the Topics, More Topics, Popular Companies and Software?

There are several Apple tags now and more can be added by anyone wishing to post on any topic we don’t already have covered.

  11. Add tags to someone else's question

I have noticed some questions that don't have any tags applied to them. This will make it less likely that these questions will appear when future users search for specific content. It might be nice if others could add tags to a question or blog post to help with this categorization.

There seems to be an issue with session state maintenance.

  14. Lose the Dell Kace monopoly

Appdeploy WAS to be a great place to get help with any app. Now all forums a monopolized by Kace questions. As a result, you will notice a huge drop in participation between the old appdeploy and the new itninja. As I don't know anything about Kace, I have little to none in the way of interest in helping any more.

Like AppDeploy, the site has a secondary purpose as a place for peer-to-peer KACE product support. But this is still very much the place to get help with any app.

  15. Indication That Question is Marked as Answered

It would be nice to tell easilly when you've viewing the list of question for particular tags if there has been an 'answer' marked as a real answer.

Further to this the 'answers' column should be renamed to 'replies' because requests for information etc are counted in this column as an 'answer'.

  19. Edit Answers

Unable to edit our answers, but we can edit our comments. May lead to excessive double posts to correct type-o's in Answers.

Also noticed Answers do not support formatting when using Chrome.

  20. Reminders to posters to mark things answered

If there are suggested answers to a post and the original poster hasn't selected an answer or marked it answered in, say 7 days, they might get an email reminder, or be prompted upon login to review their open questions list. Hard to know what needs answers with so many not marked as answered.
