  1. multiple backup location (transfer of backup files built-in)

Option built into backup to copy backup to another location.
Currently you can do this using a 3rd party method but as this is an enterprise appliance the file transfer option should be included. This should also be secure (encrypted)

    • SFTP used for KBOX backup transfers.

We would like to see SFTP used for KBOX backup transfers instead of FTP. Our KBOX fails security audits. Also we don't want our important systems data to be seen by anyone.
Also would like to have the ability to change the read-only password for these transfers.

      • Ability to restore all or parts of the database

Our 1100 was getting awful bloated so we decided to wipe it and start with a factory clean system. KB articles and Distribution configurations are in the DB and are not exported in a readable method.

There should be an option to:
        1. Have a method to restore parts of the DB such as the KB and even the distribution settings and label settings/query.

        2. Have KB and distribution sql settings exported to a text file so that we could look at that information while the kace is down.

        3. Have a method to mount the db on an external…

        • Option to change FTP backup username and password

Default passwords should always be changed - it's just good security practice. The username and password to access backups via FTP is freely available and widely publicized, placing the system backs of the K1000 at risk of exposure to unauthorized users. Give us the ability to change the username and/or password to something of our own choosing.

            • backup advanced feature

The backup feature should have two main categories. 1 being the
primary designated current feature that is in place right now. Second, an advanced feature that allows to backup the major sections
of the KBOX (help desk queues/tickets, scripting, reports, assets, and the database. Also giving the option to browse to a backup location off of the kbox to place the backup files and restore from. This area should also include the option to schedule when these backups occur and allow the option for them to occur more than just once a day.

              Benefits:

              - to restore a single section…

              • Ability to disable database backup during upgrade.

We run multiple K1100's on virtual appliances. We have large deployments and the upgrade process takes several hours due to the upgrade script automatically creating a backup of the current database. I create snapshots of the appliances before the upgrades so if anything goes wrong, I can just roll back to the snapshot.

In my situation, the database backup step is unnecessary and adds an excessive amount of time to the upgrade process. (Usually takes several hours to complete each box)

                • have the factory ISO / OEM image on a hidden partition that I can restore from

Have the factory ISO / OEM image on a hidden partition that I can restore from.

Then I can give it my database backup file from which it will extract the version # from the backup.

If it doesn't match the version of the backup I am trying to restore then it will recommend my upgrade path by using webservices to kace.com

                  OR

have a self-serve mechanism by which I can download the ISO and restore from that using my service tag #

                  • Ability to ftp the exim email logs kbox_logs.tgz

I'd like to be able to get the exim email log from the kbox.
Currently it looks like the only way to get email logs are a manual download (Settings, Support, Troubleshooting Tools, K1000 troubleshooting logs). These appear to be overwritten every night.
I'd like to get some historical data from the exim logs.
Could you write a script to push this information into the kbox_logs.tgz file before the exim log is overwritten?
                    Thanks!

                    • Add the Appasure agent to the k1000 & k2000 for easier single pane backups

Add the Appasure agent to the k1000 & k2000 for easier single pane backups on the domain. I know not everyone has Appasure but it's a good step toward leveraging other Dell products.

                      • Backup File Integrity Check or Display MD5 or SHA1 Hash of the Backup Files

Have the K1000 use MD5 or SHA1 to hash the backup files after they are created then display the sums next to their corresponding backup file. That way, when an admin downloads the backup file, they can compare the hash sum of the completed download file to the hash sum displayed next to the backup file that they downloaded. Then of course, if the hash sums match, you will know that the backup file is uncorrupted and it should work correctly as a restore file as well. Vice versa for restore files; compare hash sums between the backup file originating…
