  2. Progress bar on patch deployment + Summary of patching

This idea is already published. It is marked as 'Completed', but there is still no progress bar, so I decided to create a new idea, because I don't know another way to respond to the status, so it will be recognized by Kace.

I would like to see a progress bar on the client while patching for the current patching job.

I think it would be enough for example if there are 10 patches to deploy, 6 are already finished, the progress bar would show 60% finished.

Maybe it is also a good idea to see a short summary which…

  3. Suspend BitLocker as part of the Patch Detect & Deploy Jobs

K1000 should (through inventory detection) be able to determine that the machine has BitLocker enabled and during a patch deployment of that machine, there should be an option to suspend BitLocker (manage-bde –protectors –disable c:) before the reboot so the patch job does not get stuck at waiting for a user to enter the BitLocker PIN. If multiple reboots are required the K1000 can continue to disable BitLocker in a Detect & Deploy job until all patches have been installed. After which BitLocker can be resumed. This would be a HUGE help if it can be added to the product.…

This feature request is under review. We encourage others to vote for it to be considered in a future release.

  4. Add a Ninite-like library of commonly used software

Ninite provides a consistent interface for installing some of our most commonly used free software. Software like Firefox, Flash, Java, etc. can be installed with the same consistent switches every time, and Ninite takes care of making sure it has the most up-to-date version. That way, instead of having to prepare fresh Java packages every few days we could simply choose to keep that software up to date.

This kind of functionality would go a long way toward making KACE easy to get up and running to manage essential software.

  5. Label awareness: software is installed when placed into a label - uninstalls when removed from label

Similar to group policy software installs via active directory, it would be ideal to have labels react likewise. When a computer is placed into a label, it would install whatever software or managed installs assigned to the label - when the computer is removed from the label, the software would uninstall at next check-in instead of remaining on the pc, leaving unnecessary / not utilized software across the inventory.

This is a great idea. We will need to first blend the software and managed install functions into the software catalog in order to do this. This is something that will take a while to implement, but certainly has our interest.

  6. Sync users with AD

    Sync users with AD

We would like our AD users to be sync'd instead of simply imported. Since there is no way to easily remove old users, it would be better to have a sync with AD with an option to keep users associated with tickets.
Since we are a school district, we have high user turnover every year so we have thousands of old/inactive accounts in our K1000.
    Thank you.

Thank you for posting this request. We encourage others to “vote it up” for consideration in a future release.
Note that as of SMA 8.0, you can manually archive users, but the understanding on this request is that we automate it and that is what is under review.

  7. There needs to be Kace "Certification" available personnell for personnel operating Kace Solutions. A Kace Certified Administrator (KCA)

Employers like certifications. When you are looking to hire a new employee or when you are evaluating the work of a current employee, their industry certifications are a major factor. Training (like at the Kace Konference) could be the basis for these certifications, with testing at course end to verifiy learning. Employers and Employees would both benefit, as well as would Kace, as certified personnell are some of the best testimonials/advertisements for products and solutions.

  8. Microsoft Outlook plug-ins

    Examples of Outlook plug-ins..

    • New Ticket option in Outlook for users that creates a new message in support request form with fields that will send to the Kace support request queue

    • Create a Ticket option in Outlook for techs (takes an existing email message from a user and sends it as a Kace support request) that presents a form for the tech support person that will populate in Kace

The kind of thing I am talking about is touched on in this article from 2001(!) where some of the ticket creation work is handled once by the person…

  9. Update BIOS that has a password

In an enterprise environment it is common practice to have a BIOS password to stop users accidentally/deliberately accessing the BIOS and making changes that would affect the operation of the computer.

It appears that Distribution/Dell Updates cannot update a BIOS if it has a password set. This means that I have to go to ~1000 computers and upgrade the BIOS manually which is an extreme waste of time when KACE was purchased to do that sort of stuff automatically and it can't update a Dell computer's BIOS.

As previously announced, we adopted a new Dell Updates framework starting in the KACE Systems Management Appliance (SMA) release 11.1. This change was triggered by Dell’s plan to end of life the framework previously used by KACE. This new framework developed by Dell is supposed to bring additional capabilities as it matures. We are keeping a close eye on these incremental improvements made by Dell and are hopeful that things like mass passing of passwords will come in time to develop against.

  10. Have agent update K1000 when IP changes

I have a problem where employees with laptops cannot get software from the User Console Library because the IP address from their last inventory (up to 4 hours ago) does not match the IP the K1000 web interface is seeing.

For example I have about 50 scripts in the library to automate the installation of printers in Boston, New York, LA, and Dallas. I have smart labels configured so that if you check in on the Boston, NY, LA, or Dallas subnets you get that site label. I then limit all the scripts for the printers in each site to…

Thank you for your very thorough desciption of the issue. We will consider this as a feature request in the future. We prioritize based on feedback like yours – so we encourage others to vote for this feature request.

  11. Results of scripts that are scheduled should also be aggregated and "reported" like run now scripts

When scripts are scheduled to be deployed at a later time, the results are not reported like scripts that are deployed using the "run now".

Change the tab "Run Now Status" to "Scheduled/Run Now Status" and then report the results of scheduled script deployments there as well.

  12. Allow for modification of the user survey at the end of the ticket

I would like to be able to change what is asked for in the user survey at the end of a ticket. Instead of just asking a user how satisfied they are I may want different departments to answer different questions, such as if the problem is reoccurring or if there are any other related issues affected by this ticket.

  13. Multiple distribution packages assigned to one software

The problem is that there are a lot of software applications out there that don't differentiate themselves once installed between 32 bit, 64 bit, or any of the OSs (i.e. 2003 vs. 2008) but have different installation packages depending on these items.

Thank you for contributing. This idea is under consideration and will be prioritized according to votes received.

  15. Drop down list of categories in the knowledge base

Pretty Simple idea - create a drop down list for the category field in the knowledge base similar to the Type field in the Asset side. This would reduce human error when creating categories, because at the current time, spelling errors can create different categories. It would allow for more structure for the knowledge base that can be defined by a KB admin instead of a user.

  18. The Knowledge Base should have an author field

The author is important, if clarification or modification is needed yesterday. This should be filled in automatically based on logged in user, but could be changed if needed. Say if a proxy was entering the article.

  19. Show mapped network drives in computer inventory

Would love to have a way to see the mapped network drives for each system in the inventory. We use the inventory when it comes time to replace computer systems and right now we have to call individuals to find out what mapped network drives they have and what mapped network printers they have. This requires us to explain in a lot of cases where to go to look and the network path. It is something we would use on a daily basis.

  20. Patching Notification

Just spit balling a thought that just ran through my head:

What if Lumension / Kace issued a patching notice / update to admins who register for it? It could be a weekly email thing. In it Lumension could outline newly released patches (MS, et al.) and the projected release dates from Lumension down to our Kboxes. As admins we would know that certain patches we are looking for are in the pipeline and their ETA dates. Now, as admins, we are no longer in the dark wondering where our patches may be. It would keep emails or support tickets…
