  1. Pre/post-pend batch or script

I would like to see an option to pre/post-pend a batch or script command for Patch management, Dell updates, and Agent updates for systems that we have running DeepFreeze. I could use it to issue the CLI thaw/freeze command. It's more variables than I care for to try to coordinate Patch Management and Deep Freeze maintenance windows together, and some of the systems take longer to patch than others.

  2. Hide Patch Schedules with devices and labels out of scope for user

The K1000 8.0 permission changes prevent users in a limited sub-admin role from adding out-of-scope devices/labels to a patch schedule. It also prevents them from running these schedules.

The user can however still view these patch schedules and remove/modify them. It would be better if any schedule containing an out-of-scope device/label were simply hidden from the user. This would prevent them from accidentally, or intentionally, deleting or breaking an existing schedule.

Alternatively, allow specific patch schedules to be restricted based on role setting.

  3. Alerts additional schedule option

With current version of K1000 it's possible to schedule deployments on patching on preselected dates like run on the first Thursday of each month, second Saturday, etc.
I would like to have same option for Distribution/Alerts. Currently there is no way to send alert remaining users to shutdown their programs ( like day before )
before updates will be executed on second Saturday of the month. You can only setup specific day or same day recurrence ( like every 10th day of month )
It will be great if both patching and alerts schedules can be run on same set…

  5. Widget - real time status of a scheduled patch deployment from home screen

Instead of having to go to each individual patch deployment schedule, to check the current status, the information can be pulled from a widget on the home page. When selected, more in depth info on the schedule(s) running will be listed with the percentage of complete/incomplete can be listed.

  7. Patching scheduler needs granular selection of the months for "Run On The" options

Windows Task Scheduler gives a check box for select all months or you can granularly select the months you want to run a schedule on. This would be a good feature to add to the KACE patching scheduler.

Current scheduler will require me to create 6 schedules for a job that I have to run every OTHER month on the Third Friday of those months. The schedules would be much cleaner if I could just select the months I want the schedule to run on.

  8. Allow Patches to apply when the Kace prompt is deferred

Currently, when the KACE agent prompts the user that a reboot is required to complete the patching process, it will give them the option to reboot now or defer until later.

it will not apply the patches if the user defers until later, and then manually reboots through windows.

The agent doesn't seem to know to apply the patches anyway, since a reboot is taking place.

Spoke to a KACE rep and they told me this feature is not available currently.

  9. Update BIOS that has a password

In an enterprise environment it is common practice to have a BIOS password to stop users accidentally/deliberately accessing the BIOS and making changes that would affect the operation of the computer.

It appears that Distribution/Dell Updates cannot update a BIOS if it has a password set. This means that I have to go to ~1000 computers and upgrade the BIOS manually which is an extreme waste of time when KACE was purchased to do that sort of stuff automatically and it can't update a Dell computer's BIOS.

As previously announced, we adopted a new Dell Updates framework starting in the KACE Systems Management Appliance (SMA) release 11.1. This change was triggered by Dell’s plan to end of life the framework previously used by KACE. This new framework developed by Dell is supposed to bring additional capabilities as it matures. We are keeping a close eye on these incremental improvements made by Dell and are hopeful that things like mass passing of passwords will come in time to develop against.

  10. Ability to stop running patches with one click

It would be nice to be able to click a “stop” button on the KBOX to stop a currently running patch schedule

  11. Snapshot a Hyper-V Machine before Patching

Before Patching a Hyper-V Machine wouldn't it be awesome if the K1000 could have the perform a snapshot first, so if it fails you could just revert in a matter of a few minutes.

  12. Patching Notification

Just spit balling a thought that just ran through my head:

What if Lumension / Kace issued a patching notice / update to admins who register for it? It could be a weekly email thing. In it Lumension could outline newly released patches (MS, et al.) and the projected release dates from Lumension down to our Kboxes. As admins we would know that certain patches we are looking for are in the pipeline and their ETA dates. Now, as admins, we are no longer in the dark wondering where our patches may be. It would keep emails or support tickets…

  13. Initiate patch installation to local machine from patch detail page

From the adminui/patch.php page, add a button to force a detect/deploy for the patch on the current machine. This would be useful for trouble-shooting failed patch deployments when only a few machines have trouble.

  14. Patch Settings for Online Source should show info about patches.tgz

Should at least have the file size. But would also be nice if a summary of the patches was available.
Since the process of moving new patches to the offline kbox is manual, it would be nice to provide information about whether it needs to be done.

  15. Security - Advertise Patches

SMS/SCCM have the ability to advertise patches in the form of a pop-up, notifying the user that they have x days to install patches and reboot, at the end of which it will be forced. Also the ability to force the install and give the user x days to reboot or else it will be forced.

  16. The patch progress window doesn't always close

KACE Patching, "Patching is in progress. This window will close automatically upon completion. Please wait..." Nice feature, but frequently becomes a permanent desktop fixture. After the patch successfully installs, this window never goes away. Every time I've seen it, it's been with Adobe Flash Player updates, but that could be coincidence since they happen so frequently.

  17. Fix the smart label wizard in Dell Updates so that it doesn't reset the criteria fields after each test/create.

Currently, whenever you Test or Create a smart label of Dell Updates, it resets the non-Catalog fields of the wizard. If you're not paying attention, you could test a label, get the correct output and then create it incorrectly due to these fields being reset to default.

  18. Support for Slovak language in Patch Management

K1000 currently does not support Slovak language versions of Windows, therefore patching is not possible. It would be nice to have this feature.

  19. Smart Label patches on type/category

Let it be possible to also create patch lables on the criteria WHICH category it belongs to.
Example: Smart Label which only contains Service Packs for Windows 7.
MS is using this "form" in their WSUS solution. See screenshot.

  20. Patch Labels

Add an additional option or change the smart label searches to include ONLY those patches it detects from the system. When I create a smart label for a specific OS and not to include superseded, it displays hundreds of patches most of which are not installed on my systems. It would increase admin efficiency if we don't have to invalidate each patch that doesn't matter.
