  1. Upgrade to Windows 10 via K1000

What will be the plan for upgrading Windows 7 & 8 computers through K1000? We have Windows Update set to be handled via K1000, so users cannot use Windows Update, nor would we want to manually sign each computer up to have the option to upgrade to Windows 10 when it releases.

An option to have the K1000 do this for us would be great and save people a lot of time.

  2. Asset Management of computer peripherals, monitors, printers, scanners, usb devices

Asset Management of computer peripherals, monitors, printers, scanners, usb devices as part of the computer inventory.

In the inventory of the computer if you could see the ports that the printer is connected to. Right now it just shows the name of the printers installed but if it showed the port also this would help out Help Desk Techs. They wouldn't have to remote the computer to get this information. They could just add printers for a new/rebuild of a machine.

  3. Ability to change FAVICON

The ability to upload a FAVICON for the user portal much the same way you can alter the banner graphic and report graphic. This would allow for additional branding when a user looks to the address bar and/or bookmarks the site.

  4. Add read permission option for end-users ability to 'read' all tickets in a particular Service Desk queue.

We need our end-users to have read permissions, with the ability to assign to only specific queues, while still maintaining write abilities to those same queues. There is no way to do this without making them all owners, and that is not an option. For instance, Under Service Desk, Configuration, User Preferences, Add a Read only Label: option that we could create and add labels to, just like we do for Owner Label: and Restrict Submitters by Label:, that would allow them to see all tickets as well as submit without being an owner and having modify abilities to other…

  5. Ability to rename "name" field for assets

Enable us to rename the "name" field for assets. For example, if I have a "Purchase Order" asset type, I want the "name" field to hold the PO number. I can instruct the users to use it in that way, but it would be much more intuitive if I could rename it. I understand that it's a mandatory index field, that's fine. let me rename it though so it's more appropriate for the asset type.

  6. Adding Keywords or Tags to KB Articles

I would like to see the addition of a Keywords or Tags details when creating Knowledge Base articles. I believe this would be beneficial to our end users if they need to search for Knowledge Base articles.

  7. Allow turning off software discovery on chosen machines

There are situations when certain machine should have agent installed but software dscovery is causing problems when it comes to license compliance, like file servers. Ability to turn off software discovery or at least exclude drives/folders from it would be usefull.

  8. Slack integration for Service Desk (api or RSS)

There are several ways of doing this. See https://api.slack.com/ for more info. An alternative would also be to make user-specific RSS feeds of tickets assigned to them, with http authentication. That way you could integrate the k1000 to a lot of automation services, like IFTTT, Zapier.

  9. Allow Work field to be set as required

Would like the ability to set the work section in the service desk as required. Currently, tickets can be closed without adding any work to them.

  10. Branching Workflows in Service Desk

Be able to create branching workflows based off of answers made in a work flow. Example new account request may have a question do we need to order a computer, if yes create these tickets, if not then create these other tickets.

  11. Include scripts, distributions, WOL, and patch schedules as machine action options

This way we could easily and quickly run a script, deploy a software package, or initiate a patch schedule (for just that machine) right from the machine list or machine detail page. Would be extremely handy, browser-agnostic, and save a lot of time.

For example, if you have the two free Bomgar licenses and chose the hosted option you could initiate a Bomgar session with one or two clicks from the machine page without sending an e-mail message. Or if you are working on getting your patches up-to-date you could focus on one machine and kick off a patch schedule…

  12. Synchronize physical inventory from the barcode scanner with automatically discovered assets

We have a handheld bar-code scanner that we use to inventory all of our physical devices. Before adopting the K1000 we were using Numara Track-it system to do the inventory. The great thing about Track-it was the fact that it synced up very nicely with the bardcode scanner and automatically updated the database over the network once the scanner had been placed in it's docking station. This ultimately eliminated the need to constantly import scanned inventory because there was constant synchronization between the handheld scanner and Numara Track-it System. It would be nice if Kace was able to automatically sync…

  14. monitoring workstation

Workstation monitoring of event logs. seems silly that you can only monitor a server at this point. I would like to see hard drive failures before they happen on workstations. flags such as ntfs errors or bad blocks will show up in event logs while the drive is still recoverable in most cases.

We have had relatively low demand for this, but we are keeping an eye out for it and encourage others to vote if they would be interested in purchasing it.

  15. Limit access to report categories and asset types by role or user label

I would like to limit access to report categories and asset types by role or user label. For example, we have a vehicle maintenance queue. We have vehicles as assets and we have reports for those vehicles. My vehicle maintenance guy doesn't need be able to see and modify the IT assets or reports, he just needs to see and modify his vehicle assets. Also, he doesn't need to be able to see the IT reports, just reports for his vehicles.

  16. Improve the process of linking purchased software licenses to the Software Catalog

Linking licenses to the software catalog in Kace is an excruciating process:
    1. The description from the vendor and the name in the software catalog are never the same
    2. The software catalog does not seem to provide the manufacturers part number
    3. You can only link licenses to the catalog if the software has been discovered (used in inventory). This forces you to monitor each license and its first use to make sure that you link it. Only this way can you ensure that your licensing picture is correct.
    4. You can only export the titles of the software…

  17. delete files uploaded to KBOX by script

When files are uploaded to the KBOX by script, they are stored in 'inventory>computer selected>software>uploaded files' . There isn't an option to simply remove this uploaded file when it is of no more use. There should be a small 'X' next to the file name to remove this file at all times in case the IT administrator no longer needs said file.

  18. There needs to be an actual Agent for vmWare Host Servers.

Having go manually run scripts on over 50 host machines is cumbersome. It would be far less cumbersom to be ablel to push an agent to the vmWare Host Server and then never have to worry about inventories again.

  19. Express Code

As Dell Support now require Express code with their phone support it would be ideal to see if possible to get the Express code details for a machine and record this on KACE 1100.

  20. Security - Advertise Patches

SMS/SCCM have the ability to advertise patches in the form of a pop-up, notifying the user that they have x days to install patches and reboot, at the end of which it will be forced. Also the ability to force the install and give the user x days to reboot or else it will be forced.
