  2. Kagent: Show icon on client machine (with info)

It would be great to have an option to show the kagent icon on the system tray on client machines (with an indicator show connected/disconnected).

If the user double clicks on it, it should show information about what managed job is scheduled and for when and what jobs were sent to it (mini history).

This would help local techs to provide better end user management/troubleshooting.

It wouldn't hurt to also provide (when double clicked on the icon) a window that shows a list of authorized apps (software library) that can be installed by the end user.

Marking this completed with the addition of the ability to insert your own links. However, there were many specific comments and we would appreicate your submitting a new request for any remaining. Please pardon any incovenience this may cause you, but we want to free up votes for folks to use on other remaining requests.

  3. Multi-Distro KBOX Agent for Linux

The current "Linux" agent only runs on RHEL. It would be nice to be able to install an agent on virtually anything running the Linux 2.6.x Kernel.

If I had to chose a distro, I'd say Ubuntu. However, I don't need a .deb file... just the ability to compile from source and install would be fine with me.

5.4 has now been made GA. Contact Support in order to have the build advertised to your appliance.

The 5.4 release this Fall will include agent support for the following new platforms:

    OS 10.8
    Windows 8
    Windows 2012
    RHEL 6
    Ubuntu 10 & 12
    SUSE 11

  4. UAC compatibility

KACE agent fails install when UAC (User Access Control) is running with Windows 7. Disabling for the install only is a nasty hack and should be fixed.

I separated the two different requests contained in this thread.

    1. Installing K1000 Agent using when UAC is on:

Installing agent using GPO will eliminate the need to disable UAC on the end point. See Using the K1000 GPO Provisioning Tool for Agent Deployment: https://support.software.dell.com/k1000-systems-management-appliance/kb/133776

    2. Bypass UAC while running scripts:

Running scripts as System does not involve UAC. If run as User, UAC applies. That case is still under consideration for a future release.
Please see Bypass UAC while running scripts: http://kace.uservoice.com/forums/82699-k1000/suggestions/11691015-bypass-uac-while-running-scripts

  6. Agent Support for IPv6

Implement IPv6 at the kbox agent level. This would enable communication over MS DirectAccess technology, even if the server is still IPv4 only.

  7. Add agent support for VMware ESX server

Need to be able to inventory VMware ESX servers. I have an increasing number of ESX servers that are invisible to my hardware inventory.

  8. Support for Mac OS X Lion 10.7

The KBOX agent and netboot does not work with Lion. The computers that have the agent installed no longer check in and Kace has acknowledged that netboot will not work with Lion.

  9. Remove Powershell from new Kace Agent version 7.0.763

It's giving our environment all kinds of issues. Inventory will not update on some agents, getting cabarc.exe errors randomly, on all our servers we were getting runkbox.exe errors causing kbox agent to crash. Had to downgrade back to version 6.4.522 to get things stable again.

  10. Ability to Specify Agent Port Traffic

Option to allow AMP functions to use other TCP/IP ports instead of just 52230. It would be nice to have the ability to manually assign an alternate agent port, or use standard internet ports 80 and 443 (secure) for agent communication outside of the network.

We introduced using standard internet ports 80 and 443 only in SMA v7.0

  11. Allow mac agent installer to have preconfigured server name, as with Windows!

You can pre-configure the server name for the Windows agent in any number of ways. I don't see why the Mac agent can't be pre-configured in all those ways. Repackaging the agent, as described by support is not easy for people who don't create Mac software.

To be clear, repackage the Mac ampagent installer so that, either:
    1. The server can be specified by renaming the .pkg
    2. The server can be specified by using a fixed DNS name kbox

2 implies that once it finds kbox in the dns search path, the agent understands to get the canonical FQDN

Completed in SMA 10.2. SMA server name can be appended as part of the dmg file name and it wiill be picked up automatically during install.

  12. User Portal Software Library NAT support

Allow Install and Script to work, in addition to just Download, when there is Network Address Translation (NAT) between Agent and Server.

In SMA 8.0, we added a clientidentifier module which does not use IP address to identify the endpoint from which the user is logging in. This will be a more reliable way to support the User Portal.

  13. Official support for K1000 agent on Server Core

Windows Server running in Server Core mode is becoming more popular and is being pushed by Microsoft as the standard install mode for servers. The idea being, use just enough OS, which is lighter, faster, requires less patching and reboots, has a reduced attack surface, consumes less memory, installs and reboots faster, etc... We've become more aggressive with deploying server core since the release of Server 2016. We have over 30 servers running it at this point with plans to double that within a year. I'd rather not have to run a separate WSUS server just for the systems running…

  14. Tamper proof agent

Currently it is too easy for an associate to remove the Kace agent using Add/Remove programs. Would like to see a tamper proof agent that can only be removed by via management console. Along with having agent processes hidden.

  15. Ability to turn off the login hook in the KBox Mac agent

The Mac KBox 1000 agent appears to use a LoginHook that triggers /Library/KBOXAgent/Home/bin/kagentlogonscript to run. We'd like the ability to disable the login hook (preferably from the server end) as we'd like to set our own LoginHook to manage our own set of login settings.

This was completed in SMA v8.0 on 11/14/2017. It was switched to LaunchAgents.

  16. Agent authentication

Agent needs authentication parameters. This will allow remote machines to securely check in without first VPN'ing into the network. If you open your KBox up to the Internet now to allow remote agents to check in then any machine with the Kbox agent can check in to your server - a major security breach. I want this to know the status of remote computers. I would not expect to push installs since a WAN link could not handle large files.

  17. How about hyperlinks in a user alert?

I am having people upgrade from Kaspersky 8 to 10, at their leisure, but our policy is not to push big installs that could reboot a developer machine. The most efficient way to nag them into running the upgrade that I can think of would be to put a hyperlink to the installer in an alert, then send that alert to every computer that still has Kaspersky 8 installed.

This has been delivered in 6.0, available first half of next year. Watch KACE Konnect and Facebook for upcoming webinars and training sessions

  18. Design a client agent that doesn't impact system boot up / login process times.

Currently the 5.3.53177 agent impacts the boot up / login times 1st by displaying a Kace splash screen at boot up and at login, even when you get the splash screen to not show the agent is still processing in the background and causing a delay in the boot up / login process. So much so that we are getting complaint about it. Especially when the user takes their laptop offline.

We support a “NOHOOKS” option during installation to disable boot up/login functionality. See the NOHOOKS docuemention in the admin guide

  19. AMPAgent for Linux ARM

It'd be nice to have a build of the agent that I could load onto my Raspberry Pis that I've deployed to some of my remote sites!

  20. Use Unique Identifiers Instead of MAC Addresses for Computer Identification

Assign an unique identifier to agents instead of using MAC address in order to prevent multiple computer entries in inventory. We are testing a few tablet/laptop models and have noticed that due to their constant changing of network connectivity (switching between wireless and wired subnets) that these computers end up using multiple nodes because of the different MAC addresses. I'd prefer to have the option to use unique IDs instead of MAC addresses so these computers can check in using any of their interfaces. The ID would be assigned the first time a computer checks in to our VK1000 and…

We are using KUID as the unique identifier to determine the agent and multiple nodes should not be used under the described scenario anymore.
