  1. Allow a user to patch on demand

It would be great if end users could initiate patching. Right now they can OK or Snooze a patching message, but are not notified again until the snooze interval is up. Right now we have that set at 60 minutes. But if a user is heading to a meeting, it would be great to allow them to begin patching when they leave their desk.

  2. Additional end-user options for patch installs

I would like to be able to give my users the flexibility to schedule installs of patches at a time that suits them ... for example, when the popup appears on the client PC, offer them a range of options such as:
    -- install now
-- remind me in 1 hour
    -- remind me at 11:00am
-- install when I next shut down

  3. Optimize patch order to reduce reboots

I find that patching fully from Microsoft Updates may require 4 reboots on an OS like Vista SP2. Patching that OS with Kbox, might require 10 or 15. End-users don't like reboots. Optimizing patch deployment to a system would be greatly welcomed to reduce the restarts a workstation/server needs.

The new patching introduced in 10.0 minimized the need for this when it is safe to do so.

  4. Support Windows 10 Feature Update installations via KACE patching.

With the new model of Windows updates, we need to be able to easily push these feature updates such as Anniversary Edition via the KACE in order for it to fully replace the current functionality of a WSUS server.

  5. Patching Schedule Options

When scheduling deployments on patching, it would be nice to set up a schedule to run on the first Thursday of each month, second Saturday, etc.
This way you could schedule a patch job to run the second Wednesday of the month after Patch Tuesday instead of changing the schedule date manually each month.

  7. Pre-staging of patches

To increase our patching run rates and to better manage network bandwidth, we’d like the ability to pre-stage required patches on systems and kick off the installation at a designated time; preferably, the appliance tells the agent to start its patching cycle at the designated time (especially for devices off-network like laptops).

It's my understanding that staging doesn't occur with just a detect; the updates are only copied down during the deploy phase.

  8. Regarding the Patching Schedule, Reboot Options

Regarding the Patching Schedule Reboot Options, I was hoping to see an option that is between “Force Reboot” and “Prompt User”. What I was looking for was “If there is a user logged on, then prompt user” and “If there is no one logged on Force Reboot”.
We have a few hundred machines (student and faculty/staff) that get patched every night. I want to make sure that the machines get patched (and may need a reboot) and not wait till someone uses the machine to reboot, so forced reboot is great. But, then again, I don’t want a student working…

Not patching per se using the catalog, but security package updates are now super easy for all Linux distros that we support with an agent.

  10. Get rid of 'All Devices' in Patch Management

Get rid of the check box (or GREATLY restrict access or Allow it to be disabled) for 'All Devices' in Patch Management. This box is extremely dangerous and can be devastating to companies. If you really need to patch to all devices at once then build a LABEL so that you are fully aware of what you really intend to do. We have had several people select that box when rolling patches to a handful of servers (thinking 'yeah, I want to patch all my systems in this patch schedule'), rebooting ALL systems in the middle of the day.

Addition of option to disable “All Devices” checkbox in Patching was completed in v7.0.

  11. Scripted way to reset failed patch try count

Kace will not attempt to retry failed patches ever again once the “Max Deploy Tries” count has been reached. (It defaults to 3) There is a "RESET PATCH TRIES" button located in the security section of each Kace managed computer. However, it is time consuming and unmanageable to drill down to this button for each computer in a large organization. There should be a script created that can reset this retry count as necessary. This seems simple enough to do without modifying any actual code.

In 6.3, you will be able to select one or many patches from the Patch Catalog page and reset the patch retry counter.

  12. Changing the way application updates in "Security" patching run in temp directory

The way Lumenision creates security update packages for Adobe Flash, reader, shockwave, they utilize the temp directory in Windows to extract and execute the package. Antivirus companies have security measures to prevent execution of files in temp directory, which some of the latest Cryptologic malware runs heir malicious code. Is there a way to change the path in which they are able to execute these Security packages from?

  13. Deploy windows updates other than "only security patches"

Right now the KBOX only deploys security patches from microsoft. But Microsoft publishes many critical normal updates (non-security update) that we need. I was hoping to replace my WSUS server with the kbox, but it doesn't look like that will be possible

  16. Set a Max Prompt Amount on Patch Schedule Notification

Hello, I would like to see something like the reboot options in a patch schedule that sets a hard count on the maximum amount of times someone can Snooze the installation of patches. This behavior is similar to the reboot options. We just have a lot of trouble with people continuously snoozing. It would also be great to put in some dynamic text that shows how many times they can snooze before they will be forced to reboot to start patching.

  17. Ability to select vendors patch subscription

A large number of patches appear on the patch list although they are not used on any of the clients.
Kace administrator should be able to select what products they subscribe to

  18. Google application updates for Chrome, Picasa, and Google Earth

The K1000 is a great appliance. Patch Management is easy to manage and for the most part all our company applications are covered in the KACE patch listing. It would be perfect if the KACE patch listing included Google Applications.

Google Chrome and Earth have been added to the patch feed. No immediate plans to add Picasa at this time.

  19. Patching Status Dashboard Single Pane of Glass

Please create a patch management dashboard that would allow us to quickly view the patching status of all the machines. Such as so many machines are 100% patched. These machines have errors with patching. Compliance per patch. Patches detected but not downloaded. Machines pending reboot. Even a section for just for logged errors throughout the entire patching process. When we see machines with errors let us select them and try to force the patches at that time. I think we need more single panes of glass throughout the Kace appliance but patching is most crucial.

  20. Enable patching for Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2019 has been release for almost a year go a. So it's about the time for KACE to start supporting patching for it.
