  1. SFTP used for KBOX backup transfers.

We would like to see SFTP used for KBOX backup transfers instead of FTP. Our KBOX fails security audits. Also we don't want our important systems data to be seen by anyone.
Also would like to have the ability to change the read-only password for these transfers.

  2. multiple backup location (transfer of backup files built-in)

Option built into backup to copy backup to another location.
Currently you can do this using a 3rd party method but as this is an enterprise appliance the file transfer option should be included. This should also be secure (encrypted)

  3. Hot Backup Solution

The KACE should be able to be backed up with minimal or no downtime. This is especially essential for a 24x7 helpdesk. This could be further enhanced with more options for the backups, such as configurable scheduling based both on time and date, and the option to backup the database daily, but the files weekly or otherwise break apart the backup into manageable windows.

  4. Allow control of the backup schedules

Currently, the backup routine runs at 2:00 AM and there is no way to change it. Build funcitionality for the admin to set the schedule. 2:00 AM is in prime time for patching and deployments.

The K1000 v5.2 release supports change of back-up schedule.

  5. Speed up offboard backup SFTP transfers

KACE support has confirmed the SMA is limited to a transfer rate of approx 10-11 MB/s when offboarding backups via SFTP. This needs to be fixed so we can transfer at appropriate, faster speeds (much closer to 1000mbps on a gigabit LAN connection). See support ticket 4688470 for details.

  7. Retain the [Show All History] Detail when restoring the K1000 from backup files

Provide for the retention of the [Show All History] Detail for all functions that maintain History Detail (like Scripts and Security Settings) in the K1000 when restoring from backup files, for example: when migrating from a K1000 Appliance to a Virtualized K1000 system.

After we migrated from our old K1000 Appliance to our new K1000 Virtual Server (using the backup and restore process) the history detail prior to the migration/restore was unavailable.

The backup process no longer filters any data. If after v6.3 there is anything you specifically do not see, please let us know (such would be a bug we’d want to track).

  8. Disable backups

The ability to completely disable backups, perhaps even under some hidden settings page for safety reasons. In some particular situations a virtual K1000 can be stored on SAN storage devices and backups are done at that level including replication offsite. Just the creation of the backup files, even if we then delete them right after creation, causes block-level changes that needs to be replicated. Since backups are full copies it causes many GBs of data that needs to be replicated.

  9. Granular Backup Start Time

Please allow for editing of not only the hour of backup, but additionally the minutes i.e. instead of only being able to pick 1AM, 2AM, 3AM... being able to start a backup at 1:38AM. A further addition would be an advanced monthly scheduling option that would have options for skipping a backup or moving the backup to a slightly different time for, say, the third Tuesday of every month.
