Thank you for your suggestion. This has been added to the feature request list. We encourage others to vote as we use this input for prioritizing our release plans.

  3. Display K1000 License Number

I was told by Dell Kace support that a new requirement is to provide the technician with the Dell Kace license number for support. He also told me that this cannot be retrieved from the device. In light of the high turnover rate of Administrator, this information should be viewable in the "About K1000" window with the serial number. It would save a lot of time and arguing with technical support.

  4. Drivelock

We use Drivelock instead of Bitlocker. It would be great if we could have the kbox check the Drivelock encryption status (like Bitlocker). This info could maybe shown in the hardware section so we can generate reports on it to make sure our machines are fully encrypted. If that won't work maybe we can have a default Kace script that will check the percentage encrypted and other items.

  5. Update license without reboot

In the 5.5 era, the K1000 was able to apply updated licenses without a reboot. This was ideal, but somewhere along the way the developers decided that license updates require a reboot, which requires an after hours maintenance window. My company frequently adds licenses to allow for more nodes, and this is a very inconvenient task. Please reintroduce the old method.

  6. Allow for the import of Active Directory groups as LDAP Smart Labels.

This would easily allow for granular label management for users and devices - especially if the groups have already been set up in AD. Additionally, this could potentially allow for some cross over and AD management via KACE and vice versa - as users and computers could be managed via AD in relation to their group membership and therefore their label association.

  7. Support XenServer for Virtual Appliances

Would like to run the VK1000 and VK2000 appliances on XenServer instead of VMware. The changes are trivial - I have validated this using the demo version of the VK1000 appliance. Two things:
    - In /etc/fstab, change /dev/da0p* to /dev/ada0p*
    - In /etc/rc.conf, change ifconfig_em0 to ifconfig_xn0

I would imagine these changes could be automated/scripted pretty easily, or an appliance could be generated that is fully compatible with XenServer. The FreeBSD kernel in use already supports all of the Xen accelerated hardware (xn0 is the Xen Network 0), so it's just trivial config file changes.

  8. Migrate SQL database

I would like to move the MySQL database to a full install of SQL 2012R2 server. This would free up resources on our vSphere and also allow all of the database processing to be dedicated on a standalone server. Since the database is running on MySQL, the database is limited to the amount of processing power it currently utilizes (not to mention, it is not an enterprise standard). Please implement this soon!

  10. Force new export of packages even if they are marked as having a matching version

    As it is:
If a package was exported but deleted from the share you must return to all of the packages marked as having the same version and save them to change the status on the export page. This is time consuming.
    Change:
Please add a "FORCE" option to allow the packages to be exported regardless of status. Thus replenishing the restore folder quickly after someone deletes the packages.

  12. General Security | Give me the ability to change the root password!

For goodness sake... the K1000 is a security nightmare. So at least give me the ability to change the root password.
Also you could (which would really be no big deal) change the settings of the web-server that you don't get 404 messages where you can find the current patchlevel of the K1000 and such things. Just drop the request. It really isn't that hard.

  13. Integrate Kace with ActiveDirectory

It would be nice if Kace didn't have to import users via LDAP/Manual process. Why not just query AD against the login credentials provided? The LDAP import process is buggy and not as granular not to mention a headache to setup.

  14. Data Dictionary

Make the Dell KACE data dictionary available to KACE customers. This helps with building queries. The schema does not help without a dictionary.

  15. Support for 2 NICs, each on separate networks

I need to place my KACE on a DMZ, with 1 NIC on a "private" network and 1 NIC on a "public" network. I do not have the ability to do port forwarding or NAT. I need to have it support local assets and remote.

  16. K1000 should not require a reboot when changing SMTP authentication settings

Currently, adding user credentials to the SMTP settings on a K1000 requires a reboot. Can this reboot be made not to be a requirement?

  17. Exceptions List for MIA

The ability to create a label or other list of exceptions for MIA computers would allow us to account for machines that are off-site more often than not, but still have them appear in our Computer Inventory. We have loaner laptops that are primarily used for client presentations / events and as such, are often off the grid for longer than 30 or 60 days.

  19. Improved domain joining functionality

Coming from a background with Altiris DS 6.9, which had a very simple and seamless gui-based feature built in that you could use to rename a machine and join it to a domain, I think it would be incredibly useful to have a pre-cooked rename and domain-join script that provided you typeable fields for your domain info, credentials, machine name, etc. Ideally it would function with a 'run now' option to work immediately.

In environments where machine names must change relatively frequently, the k1000 struggles

  20. Provide NIC Teaming support in KACE appliances

Provide NIC Teaming for the Dell KACE appliances. Since the appliances run FreeBSD64 and there has been teaming support (called LAGG in BSD parlance) for more than a decade and the KACE appliances are targeted to companies that put everything in as highly-available this should become a priority. This has been solved and would be simple to cook into the FreeBSD builds.
