Inventory Only Agent
Provide an agent that will return hardware, software, custom, and patch inventories but will not allow for patching, scripting or managed install distributions.
The KACE Asset Management Appliance (AMA) is very close to this description, but we do not intend to create another product that meets the description precisely.
Agreed, a read-only agent capable of reporting hardware and software inventories on servers would be extremely useful.

This is a great idea and if this was possible, KACE would become more important in our environment. We need to perform inventory / asset reporting on servers, but we can't unless we install agents. We're *NOT* going to manage servers with KACE, but we would *LOVE* to report on them.
I need a way to run software/hardware inventories on servers without giving a client admin. rights on my servers!

I believe this option would be great. Patch management is a circular process and must be ongoing. The unfortunate reality about software vulnerabilities is that, after you apply a patch today, a new vulnerability may be recognized tomorrow. I would like to see the option put into place so we can use tools to scan our systems for missing security patches triggering the patch process. If the updates are not currently installed, KACE would determine the severity of the issue(s) addressed by the patch and the mitigating factors that may influence our decision. By balancing the severity of the issue and mitigating factors, we could then determine if the vulnerabilities were a threat to our current environment. If the vulnerability is not addressed by the security measures already in place, download the patch for testing. It would be nice if there were alerts sent to us, so we could install the patch a.s.a.p. on a test system to verify the ramifications of the update against our production configuration.
This sounds incredible, we would welcome this change/addition as well! Go Dell !
