Multicast support for deploying images
Ability to deploy an image to upto 30 computers using multicast.

Multicast imaging is in the upcoming K2000 3.6 release. We’ve entered release candidate phase as of this week at Dell World! If you’re interested in participating in the RC, let me know at alex@kace.com!

Got off a chat with a KACE agent and they said they should have multi-cast within the year but they said that last year! I'm reading that other companies have had multi-cast for years and Dell does not?! I'm sad our old VP decided to go with KACE without researching the product.

We look forward to multicasting but till then, our network upgrades have netted us the ability to easily image up to 30 machines at a time and we can do 40-50 staggard between post install and OS install. Anything more than that and we deploy K2000 USB images that I mass imaged from a 21 port duplicator. If your network holds you back, go with the USB imaging from the K2000 USB image. It saved us in the beginning before we went to WIM images. Don't count the K2000 out without looking at all it has to offer. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Yes, This is a BIG problem! I can't believe this is considered acceptable in any way. What is the use of the K2000 if not to deploy systems? deploying one at a time? Our company bought this for a rollout, and I am seeing that the potential is there but the functionality just isn't. our 5 year old Ghost server does a heck of a better job, and to me that's just pretty sad.

If multicast is not an option with the K2000 then we will not be moving to that system!

Seriously this is not a feature yet?! I just inherited a KACE 1000 and 2000 and you're telling me I can only image one system at a time?! WHAT?!

Oh my god YES!!! I'm so tired of having an appliance that is set up for mass deployments but can't multicast.

I need the ability to quickly image and deploy to large amounts of computers. Right now the Kace appliance limits me to doing this at night or during off hours. Muliticasting is a MUST HAVE!

Even free solutions like FOG (Free Open Ghost) support multicasting. This is a must for large enterprise environments

No multicast is the reason we have a K2000 box and we are not using it.

I just want to support everything everyone has already said. Multicasting is an absolute must these days. We love Kace, but it took many long nights and weekends to image our 1200 computers this summer.

we started out with altiris in 2001 and they had no multicast and you could only image about 10 computers at a time then altiris came out with multicast around 2005 i think and we could image around 30 pc at a time we then went back to the stone age it seems with kace and not being able to multicast in 2011 although kace has good options if i cant image more then 6 ata time i think i need to switch to a different product.

I agree. Multicast was so great when using Ghost, I wish it were available with the KBOX. Imaging takes much longer with the KBox and unicasting.

As an imaging product it is critical to allow multicast support as an option to customers. As an ex Altiris customer this lack of feature does surprise me.
