SDA (K2000)

Please tell us how you’d like to see the System Deployment Appliance product improved!

  1. Loading bar of image deployment on target device

On Targert device add a loading bar to check the in order to see where the image is deployed, the technician deploying the image may not be able to see the web interface of the appliance to check the progress status.

    For exemple : 0% ----------------- to 100 %
just displays the percentage to copy from the image for example.

  2. Different boot manager password for each RSA

Currently, you can specify a "Boot Manager Password" on the K2000 and it is used on every RSA. I'd like to have different passwords for each RSA. Maybe on the K2000 under Deployments > Remote Sites > (select the RSA) then have a checkbox to override the default "Boot Manager Password" and enter it there.

  3. "Smart" Labels

I was excited when Labels were introduced to the K2/SDA. In using them, though, they have not been as useful as I initially expected. The problem is they are not "Smart". I would like to see a Smart Labeling ability added like what is available in the K1/SMA.

I know that the implementation would be a little different, as the SMA applies labels during inventory which the SDA doesn't do. A thought would be to make them saved searches instead of Smart Labels in the SMA since. Adding Advanced Search capabilities and then saving the searches so they can be…

  4. Auto PXE boot devices

Coming from WDS, there was an ability to respond to all devices, known or unknown, with different PXE boot policies:

    Require users interaction pressing F12
    ALWAYS CONTINUE PXE BOOT
Continue to PXE unless user presses ESC
    Never PXE boot

I could then limit the response to a specific subnet/IP range. And because of it's rather reasonable price, I could easily spin up different WDS servers in different networks. I would really like to see the same with the K2.

In my own environment, when unboxing new equipment, we have a designated VLAN for staging and imaging devices. It would be…

Thank you for this feature request!

It would be interesting to see how this idea plays out not just for the SDA but for any connected RSAs as well. You’re correct with the risk assessment, and we’ll need to incorporate that into our discussions as we review this.

  5. Basic SNMP configuration...

Basic configuration, such as system location or system contact, for SNMP is not available to the end user. Many SNMP monitoring tools pull this information and map devices using this information. This information can be provided in the /usr/local/etc/snmpd.conf however the end user can not edit this, so options might be to allow this information to be added in the konfig stage of the install or when going into the Security Settings/General Security Settings and putting a check mark in Enable SNMP Monitoring other fields can open (besides SNMP Community String) for syscontact and syslocation. Once saved this information can…

  6. Ability to upload MIG files downloaded from the RSA into the SDA

The USMT profile is currently able to be exported from the RSA and could run a custom task to deploy the MIG file. Would be better if there was an option to import MIG file into SDA to be selected during image deployment from SDA. This would be similar to current process of images captured on the RSA that can be exported - then imported into another RSA or SDA.

  7. Enhance Scan User States Offline task to work for User Profiles stored on secondary partition

It would be very helpful to have the Scan User States Offline task work for environments where user profiles are stored on another partition (D:\Users for example).
The builtin Scan User States Offline task works only if users are stored in C:\Users. Also, the task is somehow hard coded and receives some parameters passed on from Custom, Scripted, Imaging html files respectively and where it's called. The scanuserstates_offline.wsf references scripts under peinst\hta folder which is read only so customizing this task it's almost impossible.
    Thank you!

  8. USB Image Encypted

When creating a USB Image, have the data encrypted. This will protect sensitive passwords from being exposed. In the event the USB Stick is lost.

  10. quick action buttons in the user console

We need to be able to create more than one button on the Service Desk User Console (currently quick action button). Would like to be able to create two, direct the button to the appropriate Q and be able to modify the text on the buttons

  11. Add an additional column in the "Deployment progress" view to be able to identify the machines.

Add an additional column in the "Deployment progress" view to be able to identify the machines. Right now its just possible to show the "Name", "Deployment", "Deployment Type" and "Date Started".

In a big envrioenment (we have 14k+ clients and 200 sites) this is completely useless as multiple installations starting at the same day and the list is showing the same "names" just the time is different. By adding the IP and Mac address (both values are available at that point already) would significantly help to identify the correct machine which needs to be monitored.

    Easy implementation and a great…

  13. Guys, please, it's time to implementing IGMP instead PGM. Where are you Kace developers?

All the most popular switches are handling IGMP instead PGM. Please, KACE, go ahead with IGMP support for K2000.

  14. enable/disable the installation image on deployment menu

Create an option to enable/disable the installation image on deployment menu. This leaves the production image enabled and hides the System Image homologation/testing

  15. The CSR generator needs to support SAN's as it does in the SMA v8.1

I am speaking from SDA v5.1 perspective. I do not know if SDA v6.0 has already resolved this. The SMA v8.1 resolves this issue.

The issue is described in this knowledge base article:
    https://support.quest.com/kace-systems-deployment-appliance/kb/230041/error-net-errcertcommonnameinvalid-certificate-error-on-browser-230041-

The SSL certificate signing request feature needs to support the entry of SAN's.

  16. Add SMB v2/v3 support when scanning user states.

To scan user states with USMT from the K2000 web UI, SMB v1 must be enabled on the client pc. Support has confirmed this. There are known vulnerabilities with SMB v1 and most network admins have disabled it in their environments. Please provide support for newer versions of SMB.

  17. UEFI Secure boot

    UEFI Secure Boot.

With the release of uefi pxe boots, we can now load images on our dell computers with much less interaction during the unbox. We are still forced to disable secure boot on all new systems before we can boot them.

    1. Secure boot is a prevalent security patch that negates boot malware from infecting systems. this alone should be reason for integrating secure boot loads

    2. all our equipment ships from dell with secure boot enabled under uefi, so I feel our Dell K2000 should be able to image Dell equipment out of the box without needing to modify…

We’re moving this request back to a planned state as there are some additional items that need to be worked out before we proceed with development of this potential feature.

Microsoft has provided some additional requirements and processes that need to be completed, and this has added a timeline increase for feature release.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we will keep you informed when we have any significant progress updates.

  18. Allow option to choose which driver feed models to sync to RSA instead of all drivers downloaded on K2

Allow user to either choose to sync all driver feed items from the K2000 appliance or instead not sync those files and make the Remote Site Appliance Driver Feed available to choose specific models to download drivers to the RSA.

  19. Link tasks to a deployment and not to an image

It would be more practical to link tasks (pre-install, mid-install, post-install) to a deployment rather than an image. We are several people to deploy the same image but we use different pre and post-install tasks... If each person changes the tasks for each deployment of the same image we risk to have conflicts...
Actually we duplicate the image to have different tasks but it's not a good solution because the same wim stored many times on the K2000 Appliance.
Another solution would be to just duplicate a link on the wim file and not the entire wim.

  20. Dynamic updating of K1000 labels in K2000

The K2000 can pull inventory lists from K1000 labels for automated deployments, but those lists are static. If the label group changes on the K1000, the group does not update on the K2000.

For example, if I had a group of systems I want to re-image on a weekly basis. If one of the computers is replaced, the automated deployment must be rebuilt.

Can the K2000 re-sync label members on the fly or even on a schedule?
