  1. Suggesting further improvements to WIM image handling in 3.5 and above

Hello, there may be a few posts around this idea but they are lacking detail and mostly attack the changes in 3.5 when it comes to WIM's. I can see the merit's in what KACE has done in terms of "cleanliness" however, unfortunately 3.5 has been a step backwards in terms of functionality in regards to WIM's.

Reverting to the old method officially isn't going to happen, although we can all use the old method if we want, with just a few more steps. However rather than that, here's my suggestions on what needs to be changed post-3.5 to bring…

I split this idea into three separate suggestions for better tracking. I will be managing the three suggestions generated from this one for future planning and notifications, and will now mark this as completed.

Take a moment and place your votes for those suggestions most important to you.

    1. Allow multiple imaging tasks to point to a single WIM file – https://kace.uservoice.com/forums/82717/suggestions/20372029

    2. Modify WIM Image files (feature started)
    https://kace.uservoice.com/forums/82717/suggestions/20040538

    3. Don’t copy the WIM to the local machine before deploying (Image streaming) – https://kace.uservoice.com/forums/82717/suggestions/20371981

  2. Support IGMP for multicast support like Ghost.

With Ghost, on 100 GB ethernet, we could send a 100 GB image in 3 hours to any number of PCs in a lab effortlessly. Multicast support to K2000 will make life easier for anyone needing to clone a significant number of PCs quickly.

  3. Using chained scheduler task instead of runonce action for post-install task.

Unsing runonce action to execute post install task need to automaticaly open an administrator session at fisrt boot. On slow computers sometimes, this session is fully open, and it looks like a security risk.

Why don't use chaind scheduler task instead? This way we don't need to open a session to do post-install tasks.

It would be relatively easy to do this with SCHTASKS

  4. Easy import of Managed Software Installs and Scripting from K1000 to K2000 Post installation tasks.

For me I have found myself re-adding software/scripts already configured in the K1000 to the K2000 Post Installation Tasks.

Instead of having to re-upload the associated files and commands to create a new Post Installation Task it would be awesome if we could import them from the K1000 Managed Software Installs or Scripting sections.

Import of Managed Installs completed in version 5.0. No current plans to implement scripting.

  5. Binding additonal NIC's on the K2000 for failover or bridging (VIP)

The ability to bind additional NIC’s to create a VIP on the K2000 to allow for both higher bandwidth utilization, as well as, for failover purposes would be worthwhile addition.

  6. Decrease delays in adding support for new Mac OS X versions, starting with 10.8 Mountain Lion

Standardizing on a single imaging suite for both Mac OS X and Windows was a big change for us; since we have roughly equal numbers of each that make up our pool of college-owned systems, a fully functional environment is equally critical for each of these platforms.
I am concerned that timely support for Mac OS X seems to be slipping, and this is only becoming more painful as Apple seems to be returning to a near-yearly OS release schedule. 10.7 was not supported in K2000 NetBoot until more than a year after its full release. 10.8 has been out…

OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) is now supported in K2000 3.6, which has just entered RC! If you need it NOW for your own deployment, and want the release candidate, let me know at alex@kace.com!

  7. Regional settings for more countries in scripted install

I just discovered a bug in K2000 scripted install wizard. I chose new scripted install -> Walk me through creating an answer file for unattended setup -> and among ohter data I chose Regional and Language option for Estonia: „Estonian“.

That created wrong data in unattended xml file that I can see under scripted install. Estonian settings are et-EE, not et-et as k2000 wizard creates. Can you correct that and also see the same for ohter countries as well.

    Our K2000 version is 3.4.54256

  8. Windows 8/Server2012/PE 4.0 support

I think I saw this listed on the itninja forums, but nothing was listed here that I could find. So adding it to make sure it is officially on the feature request list.

This would include driver support for Windows 8 and Server 2012 and an upgrade of the KBE to use Win PE 4.0 which I believe is required to install Windows 8 and Server 2012.

Would also like to make sure powershell is added to the KBE. I believe you already get that by adding the scripting package in PE 4.0 which is already added to get vbscript,…

We will have preliminary Windows 8/Server 2012 support in the K2000 3.5 release. We’ve run into a few issues with WinPE however, but we’re able to capture and deploy Win8 and S2012.

EDIT: 3.5 SP1 includes full support for Windows PE 4.

  9. Update notifications via E-mail

Mail Kace update notifications via E-mail to clients, so that we are aware of recent updates to our KACE Deployment machines without having to check the downloads section on the site.

  10. Capture Images from Remote Site Appliance

I would like to see the ability to capture K-Images to the Remote Site Appliance. We need to be able to capture legacy images all over Europe, and are struggling to do this unless they all go to the K2000 Site

  12. Make Windows Share imaging hack a standard feature (non-RSA)

RSA deployment is not an option for our environment, so found this with the help of Gerald Mack (and Brian Collins)

    http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/wim-storage-freeing-up-space-on-your-k2000-if-you-are-using-wim-s

Gerald also provided this DOS command which worked perfectly:

    "net use t: /d && net use t: \netshare\share /u:username password"

For those offices with small pipes, we load the local KBE via USB key, which we seldom need to update so that is perfect. Ultimately I feel the K2000 should have a function similar to the Replication Shares of the K1000. I believe this would be a major selling point for new customers.

  13. Ability to put multiple NICs on different networks

We work in a highly secure enviroment with many different vlan's secured from other vlan's it would be nice to be able to put a nic on each vlan so i can image that network w/o having to change ip on switch and kbox(then a reboot of kbox not sure why) . Also I will have issues connecting rsa's due to this inconvienance

  14. Common library of software that is available in both K1000 & K2000

Ability to share software distributions from the K1000 to the K2000 and the K2000 Post Installation library of applications to the K1000. So that software only has to be uploaded and command-line configured to a single environment. Also ability to disable the linking of out-dated distributions.

  15. Deploy K2200 with an iDRAC!

When the K2200s becomes unresponsive and require power-cycling, this should be performed via an integrated Dell Remote Access Card (iDRAC). Medium and large enterprises do not traditionally co-locate servers with the administrators. In such situations, touch labor at a particular site must be employed to "push the button."

  17. Driver Feed for Non-Dell systems

Managing non-Dell systems with the K2000 can be hit or miss. you should be able to feed in drivers for non-dell systems, even without the other manufacturers support.

Kace users could submit model specific driver packages to a temporary Kace FTP site, and Kace or other kace users could test and validate the drivers.

Once validated, the drivers could be included in the driver feed library alongside the existing Dell systems.

I have many great Lenovo notebook Driver Packages (T500, T510, T520, W520 etc...) I would love to share, but could use some working HP Desktop Driver Packages (like the…

  18. K2 should detect the sysprep indicators in an image and say so in the UI.

Since sysprepped images contain multiple indicators we could detect that and display it in the K2 UI so administrators have no question of an image's status. A bonus would be indicating the number of syspreps ran on a given image since there's a limit imposed by Microsoft.

  19. Support for UEFI deployment and building of UEFI compatible KBE environments

All the new machines that we purchase are capable of UEFI booting. We would like to move over to this but unfortunately at the moment the K2000 doesn't support UEFI.
Implementation of this support would be great.
