Please tell us how you’d like to see the System Deployment Appliance product improved!

  1. Ability for sysprep creator to run custom powershell files before sysprepping or select custom unattend answer file.

I Like the Sysprep Executor utility as it's fairly intuitive and user friendly when it's being ran prior to a capture, it however has a few barriers preventing me from using it.

    • Custom Unattend answer file.

I have a few answer files created manually in WSIM as use a few settings that are not available in the Sysprep Creator menu, would it be possible to add an option to sysprep creator to select an unattend XML file instead of generating one via the menu options?

    • Support for custom .bat,.cmd or .ps1 files prior to capture.

    I have a script that…

  2. modifying task que list

I came across a customer where rsa updates had hung for about a week, after we rebooted the task que had a few hundred tasks to do. For all the rsa's I had to enter each rsa to cancel the update manually, and that did take a lot of time. If we could get access to the task que directly we could have marked all the items we didn't want to do at the moment, and deleted them from the que in one operation.

  3. name manual deployments

It would be great if we had the option to name a manual deployment. That way when multiple deployments are kicked off we can follow which is which.

  4. Auto PXE boot devices

Coming from WDS, there was an ability to respond to all devices, known or unknown, with different PXE boot policies:

    Require users interaction pressing F12
    ALWAYS CONTINUE PXE BOOT
Continue to PXE unless user presses ESC
    Never PXE boot

I could then limit the response to a specific subnet/IP range. And because of it's rather reasonable price, I could easily spin up different WDS servers in different networks. I would really like to see the same with the K2.

In my own environment, when unboxing new equipment, we have a designated VLAN for staging and imaging devices. It would be…

  5. Direct editing of USMT XML files

In order to capture and deploy some of the custom data we have we need to modify the miguser and migapp xml files for the USMT tool. It would be nice to be able to edit this directly on the appliance.

  6. Add SecureStartup from WinPE_OCs as option in KBE Manipulator

It would be nice to not have to go through the manual process of adding this package for Bitlocker support. If this was one of the KBE Options in the KBE Manipulator, it would help a lot.

Great news! We expect to address this in our upcoming 7.0 release.

    Stay tuned!

  7. Sync images captured on RSA to SDA

Version 5 finally allowed users to capture images to the RSAs. We're on version 6.1 now and are still unable to sync/replicate those images back to the SDA. In K-12 education, we use shared images across all our sites. The ability to capture images anywhere is great, but what's the point if you can't share that image with the rest of the sites? We have 23 RSAs. Being expected to export/import these images is absurd.

  8. Please add the ability when importing packages to be able to upload a zip directly without have to extract it first.

Currently, you have to extract a pkg or xml file from a zip before uploading then importing a new package. The SDA should be smart enough to find the pkg file within the zip without the need to extract the file manually first.

  9. Post Installation Script - Link from K1000 Distributions

I have a dist for Mappoint (as an example) Id like the ability to add this as a post install script instead of downloading the zip and creating my own application post script installation. Its doubling the workload and disk space.

  10. Having a git like task repository

several of us are working on deployment tasks. It would be convenient to be able to manage these tasks through a git repository (or other cvs, svn...) in order to be able to follow the changes made by colleagues.

  11. Delete USMT user state after successful deployment or on timer

Just paint this picture: 300+ Win 7 Clients are to be upgraded (scanstate, wipe+load, loadstate) to Win 10 using the SDA (and build in tasks). The list of possible user states to restore will be to long to click "Start Installation" after three or so upgrades.

Suggestion: Mark USMT user state as to be deleted after a successfull restore. On timer (once per night?) delete marked user states.
Possible plus: Add a checkbox to the USMT user state's details page: "Don't cleanup"

  12. Deployment log report date format and XLS export?

The ability to export as an XLS format for deployment logs would prove very useful particularly if the date and time fields kept the date/time format, at present we have a long process to convert to date/time to create useful reports.

  13. NAS accessible through a Virtual K2000 appliance

It would be useful if there is the ability to connect a NAS to enable offboard storage when using a Virtual K2000 appliance. The option to add a virtual disk is not always viable due to enterprise storage and the costs involved with such storage

  14. Support for XPS13 and other ultrabooks.

It would be nice to have Scripted Installation support for the XPS13 and other ultrabooks that do not have an ethernet port.

  15. Ability to create package bundles

I currently have around 11 Task Sequences (Image Workflows) within MDT.
One of the features within MDT that I've been relying heavily upon to reduce overheard when making changes to workflows is using package references.
This allows me to create package bundles of items common to multiple images in a single location opposed to having to update each workflow.
This is especially useful when changes such as introducing new applications is done.

We primarily utilize a thin imaging workflow where most systems receive the same Wim containing Windows and MS Office + updates then package installation and configuration is done…

  16. Email notification on job completion

As an admin, I would like to be able to get an email notification when an image or scripted install job completes, as well as what the outcome of the job was (successful/failed/partial).
IN addition to success/failure status, it would be nice to have a link to the log file if it did file to see why a job failed.

  17. PC-to-PC Imaging

In a classroom/lab environment, it would be helpful to image a PC from perhaps the one next to it, instead of doing a "fresh" image. Another machine in the same classroom/lab would already have any running updates or changes made since the last image, without having to start from scratch.

  18. Bring back KBE USB creation without the need to start in an elevated command prompt

After the K2000 has created the zip file for the USB flash drive, when you run the install.exe file you used to be able to just double click the install.exe file. Now you have to open an elevated command prompt (Run as Administrator) and go to the Install.exe location and run it from there.

Please bring back the good old double click in the gui.

  19. Built in Auto-Update of certain post install tasks

For a lot of my post install tasks i add features like java/flash player/IE - would it be possible to have the k2000 come with a set of built in tasks that auto update to the latest current version instead of me having to make a new post install task for each new version of the following:

    flash
    java
    IE
    air

so if we had a built in "latest or current java" post install task it would be an automatically updated post installation task.

This unfortunately would require the K2 to have similar functionality to the K1. If there is software that needs to be up-to-date on your endpoints, you would likely be better served with the advanced features of the K1 instead.

  20. Please include an exclusion list for k-images

I would like to see the ability to exclude files from being included in a k-image such as pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys to allow the images to be smaller

Great idea, if we can make it foolproof so that the image is bootable. Need to have a “never exclude” list.
