SDA (K2000)

Please tell us how you’d like to see the System Deployment Appliance product improved!

How can we improve the SDA (K2000)?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  1. Please include an exclusion list for k-images

I would like to see the ability to exclude files from being included in a k-image such as pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys to allow the images to be smaller

Great idea, if we can make it foolproof so that the image is bootable. Need to have a “never exclude” list.

  2. Allow for package promotion model / Off-Board package Transfer linking

Similar to modern code versioning databases such as Github and Subversion; it would be great to have the ability to do basic version control and promotion. It looks like the existing Off-Board Package Transfer segment would be a good starting point in that it allow for items to be exported from one SDA to a location off box that can then be copied to an alternate SDA. Similar to how the export screen is able to tell if a file present in the restore location is out of date or current, i'm thinking this could easily be adapted to also…

  3. Ability to check / uncheck packages instead of dragging and dropping

Ability to check / uncheck packages instead of dragging and dropping.

I'm one of those guys that have ~100 post-install tasks in my scripted installs that all rely on being in that specific order.

Some of these packages are huge in size and take a while to install (Oracle Client & Server, VS2015 / VS2017 etc) with a bunch of configuration being set. Ideally we want to test these packages beforehand.
It would be a huge time win if I was able to check / uncheck packages from being executed.
So I can skip the packages that are unnecessary for…

  4. Update notifications via E-mail

Mail Kace update notifications via E-mail to clients, so that we are aware of recent updates to our KACE Deployment machines without having to check the downloads section on the site.

Clay, our current method of a GA rollout is:
    1) GA is available, we post the download to website
    2) We create an alert visible from the UI of a K-appliance.
    3) We slowly rollout the automatic download.

I assume you are referring to the 3.4 L10n release from August.

  5. Ability to upload MIG files downloaded from the RSA into the SDA

The USMT profile is currently able to be exported from the RSA and could run a custom task to deploy the MIG file. Would be better if there was an option to import MIG file into SDA to be selected during image deployment from SDA. This would be similar to current process of images captured on the RSA that can be exported - then imported into another RSA or SDA.

  6. Having a git like task repository

several of us are working on deployment tasks. It would be convenient to be able to manage these tasks through a git repository (or other cvs, svn...) in order to be able to follow the changes made by colleagues.

  7. Detect which "Source Media" and which KBE "Is actually in use"

In a bigger environment it happens that multiple administartors are creating KBEs and injecting Source media. After a while that gets messy and needs a cleanup, but Kace does not offer any option to easily identify which are in use and which are just left overs. There is a marker for "default" but that is all. Would be really helpful to see "used" or "unused" Source Media or KBE.

  8. Ability to remove Images captured on an RSA from the main appliance

We can now upload to RSA's but have to get support to remove failed images.

  10. Add Samba shares to SDA

We have a SMA at our main site, and SDA's at each of our remote sites. It seems like it would be a natural solution to allow creation of Samba shares on our SDA's to act as replication shares for our SMA, but from what I understand, this is not supported by KACE.

  11. Provide estimated size when purging unused K-image files

It would be helpful to see an estimated size calculation before attempting to purge K-image files.

  12. Guys, please, it's time to implementing IGMP instead PGM. Where are you Kace developers?

All the most popular switches are handling IGMP instead PGM. Please, KACE, go ahead with IGMP support for K2000.

  13. Email notification on job completion

As an admin, I would like to be able to get an email notification when an image or scripted install job completes, as well as what the outcome of the job was (successful/failed/partial).
IN addition to success/failure status, it would be nice to have a link to the log file if it did file to see why a job failed.

  14. enable/disable the installation image on deployment menu

Create an option to enable/disable the installation image on deployment menu. This leaves the production image enabled and hides the System Image homologation/testing

  15. default task group

With the introduction of task groups in 6.0, I would like the ability to mark a task group as a default. So when I capture a new image, that task group is automatically applied to it.

  16. Give the ability to select pre-build groups

Instead of picking an image file that has tasks assigned to it, give the ability to create Build Groups where you select the image and applications to be installed. Right now its static, if you want to use the same image but different programs you have to duplicate the image and assign a different set of applications tasks to it. This takes away from usable drive space. It would be easier to build the deployment groups that calls a certain image and application groups.

  17. USB Image Encypted

When creating a USB Image, have the data encrypted. This will protect sensitive passwords from being exposed. In the event the USB Stick is lost.

  18. K2000 E-mail Notifications for Off-Board Package Transfer Backups

It would be great to receive e-mail notifications when the Off-Board Package Transfer Backups are successfully completed and/or have issues.

  19. Enhance Scan User States Offline task to work for User Profiles stored on secondary partition

It would be very helpful to have the Scan User States Offline task work for environments where user profiles are stored on another partition (D:\Users for example).
The builtin Scan User States Offline task works only if users are stored in C:\Users. Also, the task is somehow hard coded and receives some parameters passed on from Custom, Scripted, Imaging html files respectively and where it's called. The scan_user_states_offline.wsf references scripts under peinst\hta folder which is read only so customizing this task it's almost impossible.
    Thank you!

  20. Add an additional column in the "Deployment progress" view to be able to identify the machines.

Add an additional column in the "Deployment progress" view to be able to identify the machines. Right now its just possible to show the "Name", "Deployment", "Deployment Type" and "Date Started".

In a big envrioenment (we have 14k+ clients and 200 sites) this is completely useless as multiple installations starting at the same day and the list is showing the same "names" just the time is different. By adding the IP and Mac address (both values are available at that point already) would significantly help to identify the correct machine which needs to be monitored.

    Easy implementation and a great…
