SDA (K2000)

Please tell us how you’d like to see the System Deployment Appliance product improved!

  1. Support virtual appliances and RSA hosted on Linux KVM hypervisors

Customers running Linux Kernel Virtual Machine would appreciate having the ability to host appliances and RSA's

  3. Add a Patch Feed for scripted imaging just like the drivers feed

Add a patch feed that you can subscribe to MS patches, adobe patches firefox ect and then apply patch feeds to scripted images so your images always come off the bench with the latest patching.

We’re looking into extending the linking and integration abilities between a K1 and K2 and this would be one of the features we’d implement when that time comes.

  4. Kace agent automatically install on the K2000 as a post install task when new updates come out

Wouldn't it be great if when a new agent update came out on the K1000 that you wouldn't have to manually update your post install task for the agent on the K2000.

  5. upload custom config.xml file for USMT

K2000 - allow upload of a custom config.xml file to better configure USMT.

  6. Get KUID from the SMA for an existing machine

Have a pre-install task that will allow you to select an existing device from the SMA to apply the KUID as a post install task. When imaging an existing device with a new HDD/SSD the SDA has no KUID to grab so when the agent is installed it thinks the device is a new device. This causes an issue of having multiple assets that should be the same device asset.

Thank you for this feature request!

It sounds like some additional review is needed in the product’s capacity after the SMA/SDA are linked. We will review this request and determine its place within our product backlog.

  7. Add support for Dell ImageDirect images

We have a set of Windows images on Dell's ImageDirect site that would be nice to upload over to the K2000, either from the site, or via ISO files.

In the future, we may have a much tighter integration with Dell factory processes, where you can use your K2000 as a ‘Dell-Factory-in-a-Box’

  8. The ability to enter a computer name from the deployment UI.

Instead of entering the name from the computer install, enter it from the UI when setting the deployment.

  9. Set a specific boot environment for each automated deplyment

When I switch between using a Windows 7 and Windows 8 scripted installation, I have to go and change the default boot environment (between WinPE-3 and WinPE-5) in the settings. It would be nice if the boot environment could be specified as part of the automated deployment.

  10. Peer to peer deployment

It could be useful when the network configuration is not multicast compliant to use a peer-to-peer protocol (bitorrent) to deploy images.

Thank you for your suggestion. This has been added to the feature request list. We encourage others to vote as we use this input for prioritizing our release plans.

  11. K2000 bandwidth settings: Change the units for the Transfer Rate Limit from KB/s to Kbps.

Currently the "Limit average transfer rate to" setting uses Kilobytes per second and this should be set to Kilobits per second instead to be more inline with network throttling standards.

  13. Multiple images on one usb stick

the download to usb bootable is great. but with a 64gb usb stick it could store a bunch of images. All multiple images to be written to the same usb stick. Then create a very simple menu that prompts the user for which image to deploy.
Could have the install to usb installer create a simple inventory file to record which images on are the usb and in what folder, then simply build the menu from it.

  14. PXE Boot supporting 802.1x authentication

It appears PXE 3.0 is capable of supporting 802.1x authentication.
Many networks utilize radius authentication to control users and VLANs. This is an issue with the current K2000 PXE since there is no option to provide credentials. I suggest an option be added to insert a username and password into the undionly.kpxe and ipxe.efi so that PXE Boot can authenticate.

  15. Keep Bootable USB images on file and NOTIFY when completed

When creating images, the option to 'Create Bootable USB flash drive image for this System Image' takes a long time to build, with NO indication of progress and NO NOTIFICATION OF COMPLETION. It expects you to keep refreshing the page until you discover when it has completed. Am I the only person who despises being at the mercy of the refresh button? On top of that programming oversight, once you have download the completed image, it is deleted from the server and will not allow you to download it a second time? What benefit is there in that? Why are…

  16. Multicast an image with multiple partitions

It would be great if it were possible to multicast to a hard drive with multiple partitions. In imaging our dual-boot computer labs we have to unicast the image which takes longer and uses more bandwidth. According to Dell it's a "software defect K2-5393", which In my opinion should be fixed.

  18. Credentials Management

K1000 has a Credentials Vault, could we also add Credentials Management to the SDA k2000, so that scripts or other scripts don't have hard coded username and password in post install task.

Credentials Management or a password vault for Post and PRE task would be great.

    Thanks.

  19. Dynamic updating of K1000 labels in K2000

The K2000 can pull inventory lists from K1000 labels for automated deployments, but those lists are static. If the label group changes on the K1000, the group does not update on the K2000.

For example, if I had a group of systems I want to re-image on a weekly basis. If one of the computers is replaced, the automated deployment must be rebuilt.

Can the K2000 re-sync label members on the fly or even on a schedule?

  20. Have Host Name displayed in the Systems Inventory when you boot a pc to the KBE

I am deploying Windows 7 on pc's that currently have Windows XP.
They XP machines have never been booted in the Kace 2100.
I am hoping for a solution that when I boot a existing domain pc into the KBE that the Host name would appear with or with out the IP address.
(Right now I have hundreds of PC's to deploy and I am labeling the Host Name Manually for the IP address)

Also If you did not have a hostname for the pc yet because It is a brand new workstation. Once a Image or Scripted Install is…
